Suriya 48 Update: Hombale Films Officially Announces New Project With Suriya, TJ Gnanavel To Direct

Suriya 48 Update: Hombale Films has officially confirmed its next collaboration with actor Suriya. On June 29, the production house unveiled a special announcement on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, welcoming Suriya on board for what is currently being referred to as his 48th film as the lead actor.

Along with the announcement, Hombale Films shared a text-based poster highlighting Suriya's three-decade-long journey in cinema and his body of work. The post described the actor's career as one built through years of dedication and memorable performances before confirming that he would headline the banner's next major production.

The production house captioned the announcement, "The next chapter... #SuriyaXHombale," while revealing the principal members of the project. The film will be directed by TJ Gnanavel, marking another significant collaboration for the actor following their previous successful association. Music for the film will be composed by Sai Abhyankkar, while Kayadu Lohar has been cast as the female lead.

Producer Vijay Kiragandur, Hombale Films co-founder Chaluve Gowda, cinematographer S.R. Kathir and editor Philomin Raj were also tagged in the announcement shared by the production house. The makers are yet to reveal the complete technical crew, supporting cast and other production details.

Suriya's Upcoming Films

The announcement comes at a time when Suriya already has multiple projects in different stages of production. He is currently working on his film with director Jithu Madhavan, tentatively titled Suriya47. The project was officially launched with a traditional pooja ceremony in Chennai on December 7 last year and is being produced by Zhagaram Studios.

The film marks the first collaboration between Suriya and Jithu Madhavan. Actress Nazriya Nazim plays the female lead, while actor Naslen has also been cast in a key role. The music is being composed by Sushin Shyam. The makers have largely kept plot details under wraps, and filming is currently underway.

Suriya was last seen in Karuppu, directed by RJ Balaji. The fantasy action drama featured Suriya alongside Trisha Krishnan and revolved around a guardian deity who assumes the identity of a lawyer to challenge corruption within the judicial system. The film emerged as a major commercial success after its theatrical release earlier this year and further strengthened the actor's box office presence.

Suriya's upcoming release is Vishwanath & Sons, a bilingual Telugu-Tamil film directed by Venky Atluri. The project stars Mamitha Baiju, Radhika Sarathkumar, and Raveena Tandon in prominent roles. It is being produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under the banners of Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas, with music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar.

With the official confirmation of Suriya 48, the actor's upcoming slate now includes collaborations with filmmakers from different creative backgrounds. Although Hombale Films has not disclosed a release window or production schedule, Monday's announcement formally adds another major project to Suriya's expanding lineup, with further updates expected as development progresses.
