Joseph Vijay successfully won the confidence motion in the Assembly as the newly formed TVK-led coalition government secured enough support to prove its majority in the 234-member House. Ahead of the floor test, Vijay held discussions with leaders of supporting parties as the government worked to consolidate support. Along with backing from alliance partners, the TVK government also received support from a faction within the AIADMK as well as Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam MLA S. Kamaraj.

The Assembly session also witnessed sharp exchanges between ruling and opposition leaders, discussions over alleged horse-trading, reactions to the appointment of astrologer Radhan Pandit Vettrivel in the Chief Minister's Office.
