TVK secured 108 seats in the election, falling 10 short of the majority mark of 118. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led bloc finished with 72 seats, while the AIADMK-led front secured 53 seats.

The latest political development comes from the Indian National Congress, which has officially announced support to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for government formation in Tamil Nadu. In a statement issued by AICC Tamil Nadu in-charge Girish Chodankar, the Congress said Vijay had formally sought the party's support following the election verdict.

The statement said the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee and the Congress Legislative Party had decided to extend full support to TVK for government formation. However, the support would be conditional on keeping "communal forces" out of the proposed alliance.

The Congress also stated that the understanding between TVK and the party would not be limited to government formation alone, but could also extend to future local body, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha elections.

Vijay's Electoral Performance

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)'s performance in the election has emerged as one of the biggest talking points of the 2026 Tamil Nadu polls. Contesting its first Assembly election after the party's formation, the party secured 108 seats and disrupted the long-standing dominance of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in state politics.

Vijay also registered victories in both constituencies he contested, including Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East.

One of the major upsets of the election came from Kolathur, where Chief Minister M. K. Stalin was defeated by TVK candidate V S Babu.
