Thalaivar 173 Director Update: Reports Suggest Another Exit As Makers Yet To Confirm Replacement

Thalaivar 173 Director Update: The much-discussed project tentatively titled Thalaivar 173, starring Rajinikanth and produced by Kamal Haasan, appears to have run into another development, with fresh reports indicating a possible change in its director.

According to a report by Deccan Herald, filmmaker Cibi Chakravarthi is believed to have stepped away from the project. While there has been no official confirmation from the production house, sources cited in the report suggest that his exit, if verified, would mark the second such development for the film.

Earlier, director Sundar C had exited the venture. His departure was acknowledged publicly by Kamal Haasan, who is backing the film under his banner Raaj Kamal Films International. Following that, Cibi Chakravarthi, known for directing Don, had come on board to helm the project.

The film has reportedly been in the pre-production stage, with initial plans indicating that shooting could begin around April. However, the reported exit has now cast uncertainty over the timeline.

The same Deccan Herald report adds that Ashwath Marimuthu is currently in discussions to take over directorial responsibilities. Ashwath is known for his work in Tamil cinema, including Dragon. At present, there has been no official announcement confirming either Cibi Chakravarthi's departure or Ashwath Marimuthu's onboarding.

Pongal 2027 Release Planned, Official Clarity on Director Awaited

An announcement poster released earlier by Raaj Kamal Films International on January 3 confirmed key details about the project. It described the film as Thalaivar 173, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The poster also indicated that the film is planned for a Pongal 2027 release, though timelines may be subject to change depending on production developments.

Industry reports suggest that the film is envisioned as a large-scale entertainer with a distinct theme. It is also expected to go on floors after Rajinikanth completes his commitments for Jailer 2.

As of now, the makers have not issued a formal statement addressing the latest reports. Clarity on the film's directorial status and production schedule is awaited.
