Trisha Krishnan Political Entry Soon? Actress Rumoured To Contest Elections Under Vijay’s TVK Banner

Trisha Krishnan is amid discussions to contest the Tiruchirappalli East bypoll under Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, subject to Vijay vacating a seat. The move aligns with growing coalition considerations as TVK seeks a path to power in Tamil Nadu’s 234-member Assembly, where alliance options with DMK or AIADMK are being explored.

Actor Trisha Krishnan may soon step into electoral politics, with reports suggesting a possible contest in the Tiruchirappalli East bypolls for Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, soon after Thalapathy Vijay’s strong debut in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with a clear lead in seat numbers.

News24 has reported that senior Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leaders want Trisha Krishnan to join Vijay’s party and fight the expected by-election from Tiruchirappalli East. Discussions are said to be underway within the party, though Trisha Krishnan has not confirmed any interest or decision regarding a political career.

Trisha Krishnan, Vijay, TVK and Tiruchirappalli East bypolls: seat choice after dual victory

Vijay has won from two Assembly constituencies, Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli East, creating an immediate legal requirement. Election rules state that a candidate cannot retain two seats, so Vijay must vacate one of them within 14 days, which will automatically trigger a bypoll in the constituency he gives up.

Party insiders reportedly prefer that Vijay continues as MLA from Perambur, because the victory margin there is almost double compared with Tiruchirappalli East, and the constituency is closer to the Tamil Nadu Secretariat. If Vijay follows this advice and leaves the Tiruchirappalli East seat, a by-election there will open the door for Trisha Krishnan.

Trisha Krishnan, Vijay, TVK and Tiruchirappalli East bypolls: talks, hesitation and party strategy

According to reports, Vijay and other Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leaders are trying to persuade Trisha Krishnan to accept a ticket from Tiruchirappalli East if the seat falls vacant. However, Trisha Krishnan does not have a political background and is believed to be cautious about entering public life, making her response uncertain for now.

Vijay’s political launch has drawn a strong response from voters across Tamil Nadu. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has become the single-largest party in the 234-member Assembly, winning 108 seats. The majority mark stands at 118, which means the party is currently 10 seats short of forming government on its own.

Possible alliance options are already being discussed in political circles. Some reports say Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam could align with the DMK, which secured 59 seats, while others indicate that a tie-up with AIADMK, which won 47 seats, is also under consideration as leaders weigh their best route to power.

Party Seats Won
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) 108
DMK 59
AIADMK 47
Total seats in Assembly 234
Majority needed 118

Vijay has reportedly written to Tamil Nadu governor Rajendra Arlekar, requesting an invitation to form the government on the strength of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s numbers. Several media reports suggest that Vijay could take oath as Chief Minister on May 7, although there has been no formal confirmation of the swearing-in schedule.

As coalition talks continue and the decision on which seat Vijay will retain nears, the focus remains on Tiruchirappalli East and whether Trisha Krishnan will agree to contest there, a move that could bring another major film star into Tamil Nadu’s political space alongside Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leadership.
