According to a report by DT Next, the complaint was filed by an Election Commission flying squad officer, following which the Mambalam police booked Vijay under multiple sections. The complaint alleges that the TVK chief organised a large public gathering without adhering to the conditions laid down by authorities, conducted a roadshow instead of the permitted format, and caused disruption to traffic and inconvenience to the public.

The report further stated that similar cases have also been registered against TVK leaders, including Thyagaraya Nagar constituency candidate Bussy Anand and South Chennai district secretary Appunu, in connection with the same incident.

Meanwhile, a separate report by The News Minute noted that the case was formally registered on Thursday, April 16. Police action followed allegations that Vijay conducted a roadshow without prior approval in the busy T Nagar area, despite having permission only for a meeting at a designated venue.

According to the police, the roadshow took place along a key stretch connecting Thyagaraya Nagar, Thousand Lights, and Egmore, leading to significant traffic congestion. The procession reportedly drew large crowds across South Chennai, with supporters gathering in considerable numbers to see Vijay as he campaigned from an open vehicle.

Police have invoked provisions including Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to disobedience of lawful orders issued by public authorities, as per The News Minute report.

The case comes amid intensified campaigning for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with Vijay actively participating in outreach efforts for TVK candidates. Large crowds have been reported at several of his campaign events across the state in recent days.
