Thoothukudi - Review

Hari Kumar who has worked as the dance master for more than 100 movies has taken a new avatar as director and actor in this movie. He has also attained success in it.

Maha alias Mahadevan (Hari Kumar) comes to Thoothukudi from a nearby village to make his living. He gets a job in a salt factory. When life rolls smooth for him there comes a barrier in the form of an arrogant inspector. Circumstances wind him up in prison.

In the prison crisis arises between the dreaded gangster Lingam (Rahman) and Maha. Both of them come out of the prison on the same day. Lingam makes a plan to kill Maha. This plans somehow ends in both of them becoming friends and a good relationship developing between the two. Maha becomes a faithful servant of Lingam.

Maha presides over the marriage of Lingam's gangster Isakki (Naveen Balaji) and the school teacher Dhanam (Swetha). In this marriage he meets Mallika (Karthika). Love blooms in the heart of Maha. But Mallika doesn't accept his proposal.

Meanwhile in a police encounter the S.P. shoots Isakki. Maha comes to know that Lingam was responsible for this murder. Maha attempts to kill Lingam but his effort fails and he is once again caught by the police.

The S.P. helps Maha to escape from jail along with Lingam's long time enemy Kattadurai. When they escape from prison, all of a sudden Maha murders Kattadurai and his group. Every one realizes that this is the plan of Lingam and Maha.

Meanwhile Mallika falls in love with Maha. But Maha hates love thinking of Isakki. A new S.P.enters the scene and tells Lingam to surrender Maha otherwise he would also have to face hard times. What happens to Maha-Mallika love and Maha-Lingam friendship? What is the decision of Lingam? The movie Thoothukudi has an unexpected ending with all the ingredients to touch the heart of the audience. Hari Kumar has done a good job in portraying emotions like friendship, love, action and sentiment. As a director he has taken efforts to make this movie a hit. Congrats Hari!

Rahman has lived as Lingam. He has handled all the mannerisms of a gangster. Another highlight of the movie is the heroine. Karthika has given a realistic touch to her character. All others have also given a wonderful performance.

Jeevan Prakash's camera delivers the story. Praveen Mani's music has showered life to the movie. Hari Kumar reminds us he is a dance master in the dance sequences.
