Naalaya Pozhuthum Unnodu is a common love story but has been handled very well. The transition of the lead character who goes from age six to sixty in the film, is excellent. The movie goes on to portray how the love survives despite him being hammered down by caste hatred. Director Murthy Kannan has told the film story well enthralling the viewer with many a heart touching scene.

The story begins with Velu Prabhakaran being hit by puppy love. But as time passes and he grows big his love grows, it stands the test of time. Both the hero and heroine belong to different castes. He gets ousted form the village after the girls mother knows of the affair between them. To defuse the affair between the two, she even tries to poison her daughter. The girl survives these “attacks" on her while suffering the ill effects of going mad. The family then admits the girl into a mental institution feeling proud that they have retained their status and pride in the village.

Velu Prabhakaran"s character is made to believe that his love is married to an NRI living in Singapore. He then chances a meeting with her and then gets to know the truth. They meet and take the relationship further from there.

The attempt of the director to present the story in a unique way is felt when you see the film. The film starts with a few scenes that"ll make you think that it is an oft repeated story but after a few scenes pass, you see the originality in the film. The director has presented the film with a mix of different kinds of scenes. The film"s climax is an unpredictable one and is excellent.

The director has put a poetic touch into some of the scenes of the film making the romantic scenes in the film a specialty. He has also depicted the mother cruel way of handling the daughter and lover well. The narrative of the film is gripping despite being a little low on details. The acting in the film by Prithvi and Karthiga is good. This is Prithvi"s second film and he is already improving so much.

Karthiga plays both the roles – of a lover and a mentally ill person with - equal panache. Her mother has acted well too. The other actors in the film Livingston Venu Aravind, Kovai Guna play their roles. Velu Prabuhakaran and Rohini enact old lovers very well delivering a flawless performance. The music by Srikanth Deva is excellent especially for two of the songs. The cinematography is a pleasure for the viewers eyes. Over all Moorthay Kannan has delivered well in his first film.

Verdict: Good
