Baahubali(Bahubali) Tamil Movie Review & Rating: Visual Brilliance Bails It Out Of Trouble!

Baahubali Plot:

Shiva, played by Prabhas, takes birth in the vast kingdom of Mahishmati and grows up wondering what might be stacked up on a hill top near his tribal village, which according to him is a fantasy world (it surely looks like one).

While how Shiva achieves his long term goal of scaling up the mountain is told with limited fascination, the story then takes us back to Shiva's parents, Amarendra Baahubali and Devasena, played by Prabhas(dual role) and Anushka respectively.

Palvaalthevan, played by Rana Daggubati appears as the protagonist, influencing the life of Amarendra Baahubali and Devasena in a bad way. Who is he, what does he do and what role does he play in Shiva's life forms the crux of this visually grand cinema.

Performances:

Though Prabhas has put in all the efforts in the world to live up to his screen name, Baahubali, his lip-sync is pretty ordinary for a highly anticipated film. One might also feel that he could've showcased a little more anger and vengeance through his eyes in scenes which scream for emotions.

Rana Daggubati shines throughout and is extremely convincing and powerful as a baddie(which you expect in a Rajamouli film). He even outperforms Prabhas several times.

Veteran performers Sathyaraj and Ramya Krishnan have stolen the show with their extra ordinary acting skills and also appear throughout the film, which is a pleasant surprise.

Anushka and Tamannaah provide two different shades, look wise and acting wise Anushka is unstoppable. It would be a shame if her screen space is limited in Baahubali 2. Tamannaah's acting is way below par.

Technicalities:

The VFX stands tall from the beginning (except a few shots). The artificially generated waterfall and the entire kingdom of Mahishmati deserves a huge applause. In fact, visual brilliance helps Baahubali bail out of trouble, for it lacks a 'great' story.

The film takes time to settle in the first half which is slow and lacks fascination. The whole of Baahubali depends on its fast paced second half and the climax will leave you wanting for more.

Cinematographer KK Senthil Kumar has used the angles well to provide the film an ancient look. His efforts to make the movie visually believable might fetch him an award.

Bckground score by MM Keeravani adds strength to Baahubali. Editor Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao fails to make the first half interesting but achieves exactly that in the second. Wrong placement of an item song comes as a speed breaker in the second half.

Overall View:

With so much of hype surrounding the movie, Baahubali might disappoint you in terms of its content. Having said that, visually this movie is a class apart and provides a whole new experience.
