Kanchana 2 Movie Review: Ordinary Second Half Prevents It From Being Extraordinary!
After a long time Kollywood is witnessing a major clash between two highly anticipated films. Though it is difficult to tell which one will come out on top, what we can tell you is how these movies have panned out. After OK Kanmani, it is now time for Kanchana 2 review.
Kanchana 2 Plot:
As we all know Kanchana 2 is the third installment of the much liked Muni series and hence the plot is pretty predictable. What is really important here is how the film is narrated.
Raghava Lawrence works as a camera man in a TV channel with an interesting bunch of colleagues played by Taapsee, Mayilsamy, Manobala and 'Jangiri' Madhumitha.
As they go about their business, one day they are forced to enter a haunted house(unintentionally) as a part of their work schedule and return after witnessing a horror unfold in front of their eyes.
Needless to say, after a few days they discover that both Raghava Lawrence and Taapsee are possessed by different spirits seeking vengeance. Who are those ghosts and what do they want forms the crux of the story.
Performances:
Lead actors have shone in the movie with Raghava Lawrence literally stealing the show all the way. Kovai Sarala, as usual is at her comical best and Taapsee too has done a fair job.
Nithya Menon has played a special character and has delivered, so much so that one might think about her character while exiting the cinema hall. She surely creates an impact even though her character is short lived.
Comedy plays an important part in the film and hence all the comedians have been given enough screen space which has been utilized well.
Technicalities:
One can say, amidst all that rib-tickling comedies and heart-stopping horror moments, Kanchana 2 is also a technically sound movie(better than its prequels), for the visual effects are convincing.
Raghava Lawrence, has come a long way as a director and sure knows how to fabricate an interesting screenplay. However, the second half is tiring in parts and the flashback sequences are over-dramatized. Climax looks a tad blunt and incomplete.
Music by Leon James, C. Sathya, S. Thaman and Ashwamithra has delivered the goods as the background score helps to up the fear factor, though it gets too loud at times.
Cinematography by Rajavel Olhiveeran is precise and has done justice to the horror genre. Editing is crisp especially in the first half but given the length of the movie, one might feel a few more portions could've faced the virtual scissors.

Overall View:
Kanchana 2 is definitely an entertaining movie but could've easily been much better with a better second half. Perhaps Lawrence should let go of his flashback formula in 'Muni 4'.

Raghava Lawrence And Taapsee
Taapsee was roped in to play the female lead. Anjali was signed up for a cameo role but she was later replaced by Nithya Menon
Raghava The Craven
It was reported that Lawrence would introduce his brother Vino in the film, who would dance in a song. Lawrence was said to have six different roles.
Lawrence With Kovai Sarala
Kovai Sarala has played Raghava's mother right from the first installment and is still continuing to do a fabulous job. The veteran actress also contributes heavily to the humour section.
One Of The Best Scene
Pooja Ramachandran was roped in to play the role of an anchor, who is a drama queen. She has done a good job indeed.
The Lead Pair With Mayilsamy
Mayilsamy and Manobala were seen briefly in Kanchana. This time around though they have played much prominent roles and have been given decent screen space.
Lawrence The Little Girl
Lawrence's performance once again defines the movie. His expressions as different ghosts is as good as it can get.
Raghava Lawrence And Taapsee
In October, Lawrence injured himself while filming a stunt sequence and the shooting was stopped for three months. It was later resumed once the director had recovered completely.
Business End Of The Movie
Climax of the film has a surprise factor which will probably be liked by the audience. It is also powerful enough to evoke fear.
Taapsee's Role
Taapsee has done a good job. Thankfully, she has a role to play and has not been sidelined only for songs which is refreshing to see.
