Kanithan

to
know
if
Atharvaa
can
string
together
a
couple
of
hits
after
attracting
positive
reviews
with
his
previous
outing,
Eetti.
Kanithan
is
directed
by
debutant
TN
Santhosh
and
bankrolled
by
'Kalaipuli'
S
Thanu
under
V
Creations.
Kanithan
Plot:
After
being
detained
by
cops
for
landing
the
job
of
a
reporter
by
allegedly
making
use
of
fake
degree
certificate,
Atharvaa
tries
to
prove
himself
innocent
along
with
other
victims.
The
thought
of
breaking
free
in
order
to
expose
the
ones
enjoying
lucrative
jobs
with
degrees
earned
by
others
is
what
drives
Atharvaa.
But
can
he
get
to
the
birth
place
of
this
huge
and
organized
scam?
Brawn
alone
wouldn't
be
enough
to
win
this
battle
of
intelligence
between
the
good
and
the
equally
good
evil.
Performances:
Atharvaa
is
fast
becoming
an
action
hero
of
Tamil
cinema
as
the
27-year-old
is
convincing
in
stunt
sequences.
Playing
a
reporter,
he
has
shown
intent
whenever
required,
which
augurs
well
for
Kanithan.
Overall,
his
performance
looks
impressive
and
he
is
definitely
the
one
to
watch
out
for
in
the
near
future.
Catherine
Tresa
doesn't
have
much
to
do
in
this
flick,
except
for
flaunting
her
glamorous
side.
Hindi
actor
Tarun
Arora
looks
both
stylish
and
frightful
as
a
villain.
It
shouldn't
come
across
as
a
surprise
if
the
new
baddie
in
town
manages
to
bag
several
other
projects
here
in
South.
Technicalities:
Kanithan
takes
its
time
to
get
into
the
core
plot,
which
is
unwelcome
at
the
beginning.
The
movie
then
moves
in
the
fast
lane
with
the
prospect
of
a
thrilling
finish.
Thrilling
finish
it
is,
however
pace
drops
somewhere
in
the
middle,
thanks
to
a
couple
of
misplaced
songs
which
makes
this
otherwise
racy
entertainer
look
mediocre.
Arvind
Krishna's
cinematography
is
impressive
and
adds
solidity
to
the
film.
His
slick
visuals
help
enhance
the
overall
feel.
Background
score
by
Chinna
could've
been
more
classier.
Lowering
a
few
decibels
might've
helped
the
music
sound
a
lot
cooler.
Songs
by
Sivamani
doesn't
bring
value
to
this
movie.
Editing
by
Bhuvan
Srinivasan
is
largely
impressive,
for
he
manages
to
keep
Kanithan
on
the
run.
Clipping
a
few
unwanted
scenes
and
songs
could've
helped
the
movie
in
a
big
way.
Overall
View:
Kanithan
is
definitely
entertaining
and
has
all
the
commercial
elements
coupled
with
an
interesting
plot.
A
tighter
screenplay
by
director
TN
Santhosh
sans
the
formulaic
way
of
making
a
Tamil
film
would've
made
this,
more
than
just
watchable.
