Pokkiri Raja movie review is here. Starring Jiiva and Hansika in the lead, the film is a new attempt in Tamil cinema, for it falls under the genre, fantasy comedy.

Directed by Ramprakash Rayappa, who had earlier helmed Tamizhuku En Ondrai Azhuthavum, Pokkiri Raja was eagerly awaited by many. Continue reading our review to know what exactly does this movie has to offer.

Jiiva & Hansika In Pokkiri Raja

    Pokkiri Raja Plot:

Jiiva's habit of yawning frequently, often lands him in trouble. After losing his job, thanks to his superiors' decision to oust him thinking that he may influence others with his contagious yawning, he meets Hansika.

After earning himself a job in a company, in which Hansika is already working in, he gets to know her better and joins her in a social movement that aims at punishing people urinating in public.

When they come across Sibiraj relieving himself in public, Jiiva humiliates him without knowing the fact that Sibiraj is a dreaded gangster.

Rest of the story revolves around Sibiraj's vengeance against Jiiva and how he dodges Sibiraj's ploys in order to get him killed.

Though Jiiva doesn't have much of a scope to perform in this flick, he manages to come up with credible performance, with his comical timing being his biggest asset.

Hansika plays the role of a cliched heroine, where the actress has been used to enhance the glamour quotient of the film. While delivering dialogues, her lip-sync is as bad as it has ever been.

Sibiraj doesn't come across as a terrifying villain, although the objective is to portray him as one. The actor has a long way to go before he can try his hand at negative characters.

While the first half gives you an impression that it has been crafted to test your patience, the movie gets a move on in the latter half where comedy sequences work to an extent.

The only bright spot in the technical department is Imman's background score. Cinematography by Anji is middling as he fails to explore new angles.

Editing by VJ Sabu Joseph is disappointing to say the least. Pokkiri Raja could've easily done with a slicing of at least 15 to 20 minutes.

    Overall View:

Director Ramprakash Rayappa has to be appreciated for his attempt to bring in a new genre into Tamil cinema. But the execution is not quite there, making the film tedious.
