Maamannan Review: Mari Selvaraj Delivers A Perfect Political Film With Udhayanidhi Stalin

Maamannan

Rating:
3.0/5

Mari Selvaraj strongly registered his third consecutive success in Tamil Film Industry with a hard hitting story that will make the audience realize about the inequality in our society.

Udhayanidhi Stalin should be appreciated first for choosing such a bold script irrespective of being a minister in the ruling political party of Tamil Nadu.

Crux of the story

Maamannan (Vadivelu) who is a member of leading political party, struggles hard and miserably fails to get justice for the severe pain caused to his only son Adhiveeran (Udhayanidhi Stalin) in his childhood along with his friends in the name of inequality. Later when he became MLA in the same party, he faces another similar situation.

Did he used his power and fight back the odds atleast now? How his son contributed to the father's evolution infront of those who suppressed him? is the crux of the story.

Performances

Fahadh Faasil and Vadivelu stands taller than everyone with their terriffic acting skills. Though director Mari Selvaraj forgot to justify Fafa's Tamil in the film, the actor threatened audience with his amazing body language.

Keerthy Suresh and Udhayanidhi Stalin looks a little away for their given roles. The boy who played childhood Udhayanidhi grabs attention and carries his pain to the viewers easily.

If Maamannan is really the last film for Udhayanidhi Stalin as an actor, it is definitely a great decision. But when compared to the craftsmanship of Mari Selvaraj in his debut film Pariyerum Perumal, Maamannan gives a bit of disappointment. AR Rahman's songs are too good but at the same time he doesn't impress much with his background score.

In other words, Maamannan can be considered as a delayed gift to Vaigai Puyal Vadivelu from Udhayanidhi Stalin for the damages he faced in his acting career due to politics.

Plus:

-Theni Eshwar Cinematography
-Metaphorical storytelling
-Vadivelu and Fahadh Faasil Performance
-Brilliant dialogues
-Interval Block

Minus:

- Slow paced Second Half
