Ghoul showcases Indian society in a period, where anything or anyone who questions the government is termed a traitor. Amid this arises the central character of the series Nida Rahim, played by the actress Radhika Apte, who is constantly seeking social approval. She feels bound by the religion she belongs from and doesn't hesitate turning her father in to prove her loyalty for the country. She gets her father arrested because he taught 'anti-national' literature, thus making him a terrorist.

Nida is taken into the covert detention center Meghdoot 31, which emits a certain mysterious energy. The scenes around the center alone are so powerful that you wouldn't be surprised to have goosebumps. Over a period of time, when Nida begins to interact with her fellow colleagues, she feels rather suffocating. Though Ghoul is a horror series, it deals with social and religious issues in an effective way.

What makes the series extremely appealing, besides the representation of social issues, is the terrifying paranormal characters and graphics. Patrick Graham has played around with the element of fear successfully. The usage of a supernatural character will definitely make you jump out of your seat.

Radhika Apte once again has proved that she an actress who is exceptionally talented and has the ability to deliver any role. This is her third Netflix project this year, following Lust Stories and Sacred Games. Talking about preparing for her role in Ghoul, the actress told in an interview with News 18 as, "Patrick believes in rehearsals a lot. We had several one-on-one sessions and a 15-day rehearsal where he used to draw the whole architecture (the set was being made then) and tell us how it was going to be. We actually choreographed every single scene before we shot it. I have never worked like this before."
