below
to
know
more
about
his
role
in
Smoke!
Could
you
tell
us
more
about
your
character
in
Smoke?
"The
person
I
am
playing
is
Jayaram
Jha
who
hails
from
Bihar.
He's
a
small-time
gangster,
a
shooter
actually.
He's
comes
on
a
job
contract
to
Goa,
but
decides
to
stay
back
because
he
likes
it
there.
He
wants
to
make
a
life
there
and
see
how
far
he
can
get
in
his
chosen
trade.
He's
independent.
Form
of
expression
is
through
use
of
cuss
words.
He's
a
tasteless
man
in
terms
of
sense
of
fashion.
But
he's
extremely
smart
and
intelligent.
He's
a
total
jackal.
He
has
his
quirks,
but
he
can
be
quite
the
wild
fox
as
well."
How
did
you
have
to
prepare
for
this
role?
"Lots
of
boring
details.
Spent
hours
and
hours
with
the
script,
making
notes.
Spending
time
with
your
imagination.
I
had
to
learn
to
speak
a
certain
different
speech
as
my
character
was
Bihari.
Though
it
was
Hindi,
the
language
was
spoken
with
a
different
accent.
One
of
my
co-actors
was
kind
enough
to
give
me
a
recording
on
his
voice
of
a
monologue
from
the
script.
Mostly
it
was
listening
to
that
apart
from
all
the
other
boring
work
I
did.
As
every
language
has
a
different
rhythm,
it
was
important
to
get
that.
My
attempt
was
to
catch
the
rhythm
than
get
the
language
right.
Because
nobody
speaks
a
perfect
language
unless
you're
a
scholar
or
Shashi
Tharoor
(laughs)."
What
made
you
say
a
yes
to
the
web
series
'Smoke'?
"It
was
a
very
well
written
script.
It
had
wonderful
interesting
characters.
All
different
from
one
another.
The
story
in
my
opinion
is
driven
by
greed
and
power.
That
was
interesting
for
me.
The
makers
had
their
hearts
and
minds
in
the
right
place.
They
wanted
to
make
a
good
product
that's
entertaining,
interesting
and
layered.
It's
complex.
It's
dark
and
dirty,
but
it's
also
shiny
and
delightful.
There
is
little
bit
of
everything
for
everybody.
Because
of
online
viewers
you
have
fewer
restrictions,
certain
stories
can
be
told.
It
is
an
emerging
medium.
It
seemed
like
a
good
idea."
Can
we
expect
some
revelation
about
Goa
through
the
series?
"Smoke
is
not
about
drugs.
Smoke's
intention
is
not
to
make
a
political
statement.
Not
a
commentary
on
whether
one
should
do
drugs
or
not.
It's
a
fiction
that
uses
Goa
as
a
place.
It
uses
drug
trade
and
mafia
as
the
premise
to
tell
the
story.
So,
it
is
not
trying
to
give
a
message
for
or
anti.
Things
are
layered,
so
it
communicated
different
ideas.
There
are
variety
of
characters
and
all
sorts
of
beautiful
shades
of
gray.
Each
layer
has
its
own
perspective
and
story.
People
will
see
the
interesting
perspective
from
their
point
of
view
as
well
with
regards
to
drug
and
mafia."
Could
you
share
details
of
one
memorable
moment
from
the
sets
of
'Smoke'?
"I
had
broken
my
knee.
I
shot
for
about
15
days
and
went
on
a
short
holiday
on
a
skiing
trip.
It
was
very
unprofessional
of
me.
I
needed
surgery,
but
I
couldn't
have
the
surgery.
So,
the
memorable
moment
was
not
on
the
sets
of
Smoke,
but
while
I
was
in
between
the
schedule.
I
10,000
feet
when
I
fell
from
the
slop.
I
was
using
cuss
words
when
my
wife
and
coach
came
from
behind.
My
right
leg
was
completely
bent
out
of
shape.
I
will
have
to
deal
with
it
for
the
rest
of
my
life.
So,
this
was
my
most
memorable
from
the
sets
of
Smoke."
