HBO boss Chris Albrecht has resigned from the network, following his arrest on suspicion of allegedly attacking his girlfriend. On May 9 Albrecht agreed to take a leave of absence, but has now agreed to step down, admitting the incident - which happened in Las Vegas in the early hours of Sunday morning - has been embarrassing to HBO, reports a film website.

In a statement Richard D. Parsons, the chairman and CEO of parent company Time Warner, says, "Jeff Bewkes (President and CEO of Time Warner) and I believe that this is the right decision for the Company. We thank Chris for all of his contributions to Home Box Office over the years." Albrecht says that he "agreed to step down... recognizing that he cannot allow my personal circumstances to distract the business." In an earlier letter to HBO staff, Albrecht apologised for the incident and admitted he was recovering from alcoholic.
