Star India is passing through a turbulent phase with Sameer Nair, COO Star India leaving the camp. This is following the CEO Peter Mukerjea's exit from the channel. Nair who had stopped coming to office was conspicuous with his absence at the film awards function last weekend. India is inevitably Star's most sought country with large viewer ship and major change in the top rung will affect its smooth functioning. The rumour goes that Nair is soon to take over the charge of the entertainment channel to be launched by NDTV in partnership with filmmaker Karan Johar's Dharma Productions. John Askera will take over as the new COO of Star India. The grapevine was that Mukerjea would be joining NDTV while Nair would be a part of the channel to be launched by Reliance. Though Mukherjea was the CEO, Samir Nair took much of the major decisions. Samir Nair is credited with having played a pivotal role in bringing up Star as the prime channel on television.
