Olympic
bronze
medal
winner
Vijender
Singh,
who
recently
added
one
more
feather
to
his
cap
by
winning
bronze
medal
at
the
World
Boxing
Championship
in
Milan,
is
now
all
set
to
rock
the
small
screen
by
hosting
an
Indian
version
of
the
action
sport
reality
television
show
'The
Contender'.
The
show
is
inspired
by
American
version
'The
Contenders'.
'The
Contender'
will
be
telecast
weekly
on
a
television
channel
soon.
According
to
Vijender,
boxing
is
popular
worldwide.
But
the
scene
is
different
in
India
because
Cricket
has
been
the
lifeline
of
Indian
sports.
He
wants
to
promote
boxing
in
India
through
the
show
and
take
it
to
another
level
by
providing
a
platform
to
the
deserving
candidates.
The
show
is
served
as
a
vehicle
for
boxers
to
enter
the
international
competitions.
Talking
to
the
media
about
the
show,
Vijender
Singh
said,
"I
will
guide
and
counsel
the
participants.
I
hope
to
bring
in
my
international
experience
to
use
for
the
eager
contenders." He
added,
"Boxing,
as
a
sport,
is
very
popular
across
the
world,
but
the
situation
is
not
the
same
in
India.
Cricket
has
always
been
the
lifeline
here."
The
American
version
of
the
show
'The
Contenders'
has
been
produced
by
Mark
Burnett
Productions.
Now.
Bulldog
Media
&
Entertainment
and
Percept
Picture
Company
will
co-produce
the
action
sport
reality
TV
show
franchise
'The
Contender'
in
India.
Addressing
the
media,
Akash
Sharma,
vice
chairman
and
managing
director
of
Bulldog
Entertainment,
said,
"At
Bulldog,
it
has
been
our
constant
endeavor
to
bring
the
highest
quality
formats
of
international
programs
to
India.
This
is
our
first
initiative
in
co-production
and
re-associating
with
Mark
Burnett
again
this
time
for
The
Contender
merely
affirms
our
conviction
to
provide
the
Indian
audience
with
only
those
shows,
which
will
make
them
anticipate
more
fun,
action,
healthy
competition
and
drama
in
each
episode."
"It
is
a
reality
show
that
follows
a
group
of
boxers
competing
in
a
single
elimination
style
competition.
It
will
provide
viewers
insight
into
aspects
like
the
hopes,
triumphs
and
defeats
of
the
contestants," Sharma
added.
However,
Vijender
Singh
came
into
the
limelight
after
winning
a
bronze
medal
at
the
Bejing
Olympics
a
year
ago.
Recently,
he
has
again
proved
his
guts
by
winning
another
bronze
medal
at
the
World
Boxing
Championship
in
Milan.
He
has
come
a
long
way
in
building
his
public
image.
Earlier,
Vijender
Singh
has
appeared
on
Salman
Khan's
hit
show
'10
Ka
Dum'.
He
was
accompanied
by
fellow
Haryanvi
chick
and
Bollywood
bombshell
Mallika
Sherawat.
He
has
also
danced
with
another
Bollywood
babe
Bipasha
Basu
on
the
show
Nach
Baliye
4.
He
said,
"I
had
many
offers
to
participate
in
reality
shows.
But
this
one
excited
me,
after
all
it
was
a
boxing-based
show,
I
couldn't
reject
it."
