BBC Worldwide Channels is going to launch more television channels in India as they have been able to identify the growing market here. With the launch of new channels, BBC wants to expand the reach of its channels in this country, according to a senior official.

On Thursday, Darren Childs, MD, BBC Worldwide Channels, said, “We have been able to recognize the growing market in India, so we will invest substantially here to offer quality content and increase distribution".

At present, BBC Worldwide Channels controls an international network of 41 channels while reaching 326 million homes. Apart from BBC Entertainment, BBC World News and CBeebies, BBC Worldwide also operated a television production business here in Mumbai. The three seasons of 'Dancing with the Stars", 'Desi Girl", and 'Baby Borrowers" are its productions.

According to Mr Childs, in the coming five years, the pay television market in India is going to grow hugely thus making it an important market for the company in future. He added that by the year end, it will re-launch the BBC Entertainment and will have an extended distribution for its channels.

Childs added, “At an appropriate time, we will also launch some other channels like BBC Lifestyle and BBC Knowledge in India".
