Punjabi boy Vipul Mehta wins Indian Idol 6

22-year old Punjabi boy Vipul Mehta's dream came true finally after he won the sixth season of singing reality show Indian Idol on Saturday. It wasn't an easy call to choose the final winner amongst the three golden voices, who all hailed from Punjab - Vipul Mehta, Devendra Pal Singh and Amit Kumar.

Vipul walked away with a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh, a Nissan Micra car, and a Suzuki Hayate bike. Vipul, who learnt the Indian classical music from the age of eight and is a mass communication graduate, wants to make a career in sound engineering. He was a finalist in another singing reality show 'Voice of India' (season 2).

Punjab Revenue and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia felicitated Vipul Mehta for winning the title of Indian Idol 6. Majithia said that it was not easy to win the title as there were many budding talents across the country who were performing in the competition.

"Vipul's performance was unmatchable. Amritsar has already given top icons to Indian Cinema including world renowned actors Rajesh Khanna, Dara Singh and legendary singer Mohammad Rafi and now Vipul is going to add a new feather in the cap," he added.
