By Girija Narayan

Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani, the Drashti Dhami and Siddhant Karnick starring Zee TV show aired its first episode last night, 27 July. The much awaited period drama has managed to establish itself as the beginning of an epic love story between a King and a common girl.

Gayatri and Ranaji aka Rana Indravardhan, played by Drasthi and Siddhant, are from two different worlds, literally. When Gayatri is from humble backgrounds, reminding us a lot of Cinderella, Ranaji belongs to royalty.

Drashti Dhami's Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani Starts Tonight; See On The Sets Photos!

The first episode had the two characters getting established. Gayatri as a book-reading, hard-working, sweet/bubbly/innocent young lady who is the daughter of the state's biggest moneylender, Gopal Seth. Ranaji, the pride and successor of the Royal family of Ameerkot, who has returned with psychological battle scares from World War 2 and whose life is in danger in his own palace.

Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani, which marks the comeback of Drashti after her super-hit show - Madhubala Ek Ishq Ek Junoon, sure has all the elements of becoming a TRP churning, money-minting show. Interesting story and characters, impeccable actors to play them, impressive settings to support and present it with all the galore and simplicity it requires to unveil yet another Cinderella story.
