Ishqbaaz: Gul Khan Says The Show Is Not Working Digitally Or On BARC; No Tweets/Comments Can Change!
Ishqbaaz’s producer Gul Khan reveals why the leap is a natural progression in any daily soap and it’s nothing so dramatic or new. She reveals that no tweeting or commenting can change the decision!
Fans were shocked when they got to know that their favourite show Ishqbaaz is all set to take a generation leap, and the show will not have their 'kidikitod' actress Surbhi Chandna! The show has entertained the viewers for a long time and they are in love with the cast, especially Surbhi and Nakuul Mehta's jodi. They were shattered after knowing about the leap without Surbhi and took to social media to trend #NoSurbhiNoIshqbaaaz and #NoShivikaNoIshqbaaaz. It is being said that Surbhi is not comfortable playing a mother on-screen so soon! It is being said that Nakuul will be seen playing his own son Shivaansh Singh Oberoi. Also, there were reports that Vikram Singh Chauhan has been approached for the show!
The producer of the show, Gul Khan recently confirmed the leap and Nakuul playing his own son on the show! In an interview to IWM, the producer also confirmed about Surbhi's exit and revealed as to why the leap is necessary. She also reacted to the fans' online trend! Read on to know what she has to say!
Why The Leap?
When asked as to why they are taking the story ahead with a leap, Gul said, "It's a natural progression in any daily soap to take a leap! It's nothing so dramatic or new!" When asked as to why they can't continue with the Shivika track, the producer revealed that the track is not working!
Numbers Matter!
She added, "In the last 5 months the ratings and time spent on the show has been dismal! 1.5 tvr and 11 minutes of time spend! For a show to stay on air, you need minimum 15 to 17 minutes of TSV (time people spend watching one episode). So clearly people are not watching enough for it to survive!"
“A Small Bunch Of People Tweeting About The Show Is Not Enough For Show’s Survival!”
When pointed that the show has a good online following, the producer told the entertainment portal, "Yes but that's not enough! A small bunch of people tweeting about the show is not enough for a show to survive! And if it had serious digital following it would have reflected on Hotstar! Forget about being No.1, Ishqbaaz is not even in top 5 on Hotstar! So what digital following are we talking about! There are no serious numbers on the show anymore even online!"
Is The Show In Danger?
When asked whether the show is in danger, she said, "Of course!! Star has been very co-operative and has given IB many chances. But it cannot survive on these ratings; so we have to take a leap and give the show a new drift! It's the most common thing to do on a daily soap!"
Surbhi Is Not Comfortable Playing A Mother!
When asked why they don't show pregnancy track with Shivika as parents and follow their child raising journey, she says that this was the initial plan, but Surbhi was not fine with playing a mother at such an early stage of her career. She adds, "I understand that totally!"
“The Truth Is That No Tweeting Or Commenting Can Change!”
When asked what's her message for the online fans, she said, "Firstly whether negative comments or positive, it's nice to see that all characters we created have had such an impact, that people are reacting so emotionally about it! So in a way we all should be thankful to the fandom, but each show's destiny is only based on numbers and numbers only! Unfortunately now at this point of time this show is not working either digitally or on BARC! The truth is that no tweeting or commenting can change!"
“Please Let’s Control Our Imaginations”
Further, she said how her previous show Qubool Hai took a leap and they let go of the full cast. She added that she worked with almost all actors from the show later! She adds, "So please let's control our imaginations here for a bit! It's a show and after 800 episodes we are taking a leap! Nothing out of this world or nothing beyond our imagination has happened! And honestly, if it had the online popularity numbers, we would have not taken it!"
Now that Gul has confirmed that the show will indeed take a leap without Surbhi and no tweets can change the decision, it has to be seen what the fans have to say. Will the show shut down if the leap doesn't work? Well, it will be too early to comment on this, so let's wait and watch!
