Megha Chakraborty Exclusive: Star Plus' Imlie, produced by Gul Khan under 4 Lions Films, premiered in November 2020 with Sumbul Touqeer Khan and Gashmeer Mahajani in the lead roles.

The show turned out to be an instant success among viewers and made the lead stars household names. Later, Fahmaan Khan entered as the new male lead, Aryan Singh Rathore, and fans loved his pairing with Sumbul.

Last year, the makers introduced a generation leap after which Megha Chakraborty and Karan Vohra entered Imlie as the new lead stars. Initially, SuMaan fans weren't happy with the leap, however, the second season too is a hit among viewers with the new lead pair winning hearts as Imlie and Atharva.

In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat, Megha Chakraborty talked about the success of Imlie season 2, comparisons with Sumbul Touqeer Khan, and her journey so far.

For the unversed, Megha started her TV career with Badi Devrani (&TV) in 2015 and then went on to be a part of popular shows like Krishna Chali London (Star Plus) and Kaatelal And Sons (SAB TV).

MEGHA CHALRABORTY ON HER JOURNEY AND SUCCESS OF IMLIE 2

Talking about her journey, Megha revealed going through many ups and downs before making a mark for herself in the industry. She said, "The journey has been very good, lots of ups and downs were there, but it was fun, definitely. So, yes, I started my journey in 2015, Badi Devrani kar rahi thi mai. But, I think, when I did Krishna Chali London for Star Plus, mujhe usse kaafi log pehchanne lage, praise karne lage, kyunki prime slot ka show tha and wo ek saal chala tha, it was a big thing for me at that time. Uske baad, Kaatelal And Sons, wo bhi bohot hit hua, bohot famous hua. Uske baad, definitely Imlie. I think things got better step by step. Imlie toh definitely was a hit show, uske baad Imlie 2 ko bhi usi tareeke se logon ne pyaar kiya. Toh, I think, journey bohot hi sweet aur exciting rahi hai. Kaafi kuch seekha maine, kaafi log mile, kaafi family banai maine. It's been good."

Megha joined Imlie after the generation leap and there was a lot of pressure on her and the whole team. However, the show is still a huge hit among viewers. On being asked if she expected such a huge response, the actress stated, "When I joined Imlie, I was nervous and bohot saara pressure tha mere upar, puri cast ke upar, team ke upar. But, itna hi confidence tha ki kuch bhi ho jae hum apne performance mei toh koi kami nahi rehne denge. Baaki cheez hamare haath mei nahi hai, na story, na promotion, hamare haath mei ek hi cheeez hai, jo character humei mila hai wo cheez hum apne poore dil-o-jaan se karein. Uss cheez mein mera pura confidence tha ki mai itna toh main accha kar lungi ki mai logon ka dil jeet paau. Ab agar show nahi chala kisi reason ki wajah se, uska kya kar skte hai. But, yes, there was some mixed feelings ki kaisa rahega logon ka response. Negative thoughts bhi the lekin main kaafi positive thi iss baat ko leke ki nahi, hum kar lenge, aur hum iss show ki TRP jo rahi hai hum mantain karenge and logon ko accha lagega."

MEGHA CHALRABORTY ON REPLACING SUMBUL TOUQEER KHAN AS IMLIE

She replaced Sumbul Touqeer Khan as Imlie and the actress' fans weren't initially not too happy with the leap and new star cast. Sharing her thoughts about the initial stress of stepping into Sumbul's shoes, Megha further stated, "Definitely, the first season of Imlie was very hit. So, ek khushi thi hit show ko join karne ki aur ek replacement ka wo tension bhi tha, pressure bhi tha ki ek naya couple Imlie 2 mei dikhega, suddenly ek hit couple ka replacement hoga, toh log kaise reach karenge, pasand karenge, nahi karenge, toh kaafi saare sawaal aate hai. Definitely, comparison toh hota hai hai, wo hua bhi hai. Kaafi comments, messages, kaafi negative things, wo aae hai, abhi bhi aate hai. But, definitely kam ho gaya hai. Kyunki logon ne bohot yaar kiya hai. Bohot log aise the jinhone Sumbul ko jitna pyaar diya, mujhe bhi utha pyaar de rahe hai. Bohot log aise the jihone pehle nahi pyaar diya, baad mei pyaar de rahe hai. Bohot log abhi bhi nahi pyaar dena chahte, unhei purana couple hi pasand hai. Lekin, jo plus point hai, ki majority mei humei pyaar hi mil raha hai. So, negative cheezon ko side hatao, positive cheezon ko dekho. But, yes, initially, I was nervous, I was tensed, bohot pressure tha, not only on me, poori team ke upar bohot zyaada pressure tha."

Well, we must say that Megha is indeed doing a great job and people are also liking her chemistry with co-star Karan Vohra.
