Onam 2023: Kerala is presently rejoicing in the festivities of its most significant celebration, Onam. This 10-day-long festival is being observed from August 20 to August 31 this year. The occasion commemorates the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali and coincides with the harvest season of the standing crops.

SIGNIFICANCE OF ONAM

The festival is a homage to King Mahabali's return, surrounded by numerous tales and myths. Each day during this celebration holds its own significance, commencing with Atham, followed by Chodhi, Vishakam, Anizham, Thriketa, Moolam, Pooradam, and Uthradam, culminating on the 10th day known as Thiruvonam.

According to Drik Panchang, Thiruvonam is observed between the period of August 29 at 2:43 am and August 30 at 11:50 pm this year.

As Onam is a popular festival, it is a reminder of unity and togetherness for TV star Mohit Malhotra. The actor, who is currently seen essaying the pivotal role of Vikrant in ZEE TV's popular show Bhagya Lakshmi featuring Rohit Suchanti and Aishwarya Khare in the lead roles of Rishi and Lakshmi respectively, shared his views about Onam and recalled how he used to celebrate it with his South Indian friends.
