SACH KAHU TOH: Adnan Khan-Aditi Sharma's Katha Ankahee Deserved Another Chance. Sony TV's Decision Was WRONG

Aditi Dev Sharma Adnan Khan Katha Ankahee Deserved Another Chance Sony TV Idea Was Flop To End Show

Katha Ankahee: When Sony Entertainment Television decided to launch the Hindi remake of Binbir Gece (One Thousand and One Nights), industry experts were skeptical if the show could meet the requirements of the desi audience. Sony TV's bet turned out to be a huge success as Adnan Khan and Aditi Dev Sharma's show managed to strike a chord with the aam aadmi (mango people).

WHY SONY TV'S DECISION TO END KATHA ANKAHEE WAS WRONG?

Katha Ankahee performed reasonably well at the 8:30pm slot, solidifying Sony Entertainment Television's prime time line-up. The show not only earned a decent viewership but also received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. The viewers, who watched the drama series, praised the screenplay, impeccable performances of the lead actors and the intriguing storyline.

Although it was a remake, Katha Ankahee wooed the Hindi-speaking viewers and became popular in a short span of time. The show was doing well until the time IPL 2023 knocked our doors. The cricket league affected the viewership of several shows including Kathaa Ankahee. Despite the setback, the makers somehow brought back the daily soap on track.

However, the channel decided to shift the timings of Katha Ankahee to make way for Dabangii. Dabangi failed to impress the audience even when it boasted of a star-studded cast and fresh storyline.

Mind you, none of the three shows couldn't garner more TRPs than Katha Anakhee despite the massive promotions. Dabangii, Kuch Reet Jagat Ki Aisi Hai and Pukaar- all garnered less numbers than Adnan Khan and Aditi Dev Sharma's show.

The GEC could have promoted Katha Ankahee more rather than shifting the show and ending it subsequently. It was a disastrous decision as the channel couldn't fetch good ratings in the competitive 8:30pm slot. While Imlie, Bhagya Lakshmi and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah continued to race ahead, Neerja also outshined Sony TV's show at the same slot.

KATHA ANKAHEE DESERVED ANOTHER CHANCE

As an ardent viewer, who followed the show religiously, I strongly believed that Katha and Viaan's story deserved another chance. The ending felt rushed and it didn't do justice to the beautiful characters and their journey, with whom we fell in love with.

Instead of a rushed ending, the makers could have focused on Viaan and Katha's love story and showcased their journey together after marriage. We never got their happy moments and were treated with mindless twists at times. Kudos to Sphere Origins for backing the show but a big thumbs down to Sony Entertainment Television for 'butchering' Katha Ankahee.
