Independence Day 2024 Exclusive: Today, on August 15, India is celebrate its 78th Independence Day, marking the end of British colonial rule that began in 1947 after a nearly two-century-long struggle.
This year's Independence Day theme, 'Viksit Bharat,' represents the vision of a developed India by 2047. This theme underscores the government's dedication to transforming the country into a developed nation by its centennial of freedom from colonial rule.
PARAS KALNAWAT SHARES VIEWS ABOUT INDEPENDENCE DAY
On the special occasion, Kundali Bhagya star Paras Kalnawat had a chat with Filmibeat in which he talked about Independence Day and remembered out freedom fighters. He said, "Independence Day is a special day that fills my heart with immense pride and gratitude. It reminds us of the countless sacrifices made by our freedom fighters, who bravely fought for the liberty we enjoy today."
Recalling his childhood memories related to Independence Day celebration, Paras added, " During my school days, I remember taking part in the group dance with my classmates and after lots of practice, perform on stage to Bollywood patriotic songs like 'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani' and 'Suno Gaur Se Duniya Walo'. As we celebrate the 78th year of our freedom, let's remember that true independence means being self-reliant, responsible citizens, and working towards the betterment of our country. This year as well, I am celebrating it with the cast on the sets of Kundali Bhagya by wearing Tricolor clothes. Let's pledge to contribute to India's growth and development in every way possible. INDEPENDENCE DAY HISTORY AND SIGNIFICANCE
On August 15, 1947, India achieved independence from British rule. The night before this historic event, Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India, eloquently described the occasion as a 'Tryst with Destiny.'
The quest for independence began with the 'Revolt of 1857' and gained momentum under Mahatma Gandhi's leadership in the early 20th century. The Indian Independence Bill was presented to the British House of Commons on July 4, 1947, leading to the establishment of August 15 as Independence Day.
Each year, the Prime Minister of India traditionally raises the national flag and delivers a speech outlining the nation's progress, achievements, and future aspirations. This year's address was Prime Minister Modi's 11th consecutive Independence Day speech and his first in his third term. Independence Day, known as Swatantrata Diwas, is celebrated annually with a public holiday to honor this significant event.
