Sonnal Kakar, the creative force behind Jaane Anjaane Hum Mile, is on cloud nine as her new ZEE TV show has received an amazing response from the audience. Kakar, who is a seasoned industry professional, has more two decades of experience in the entertainment industry
She made a power-packed debut as a producer with Jaane Anjaane Hum Mile. As she is the writer and conceptualizer of the new daily soap, Sonnal spoke about the theme, casting and the initial response in an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat.
Here are excerpts from the interview.
1. Congratulations on the initial response for your show. Bringing a show on primetime comes with an equal set of expectations and pressure. How are you dealing with it as a producer-writer?
Thank you so much for the kind words! As both a producer and writer, I see these expectations as an opportunity rather than pressure. When you believe in the story you're telling and the characters you've brought to life, the journey feels fulfilling. Of course, the primetime slot adds a layer of responsibility, but I think of it as a platform to connect with a wider audience. My focus remains on ensuring that the storytelling remains authentic and relatable while staying true to the show's core themes. The initial response has been heartening and motivates us to keep refining and delivering what our audience loves.
2. Jaane Anjaane Hum Mile took over such an important primetime slot on ZEE TV. Were you nervous, or did you take it as a challenge?
It was a mix of both, honestly! Taking on a primetime slot is undoubtedly a huge responsibility, given the expectations of both the audience and the channel. However, I saw it as an exciting challenge. The show's unique premise and compelling characters gave me confidence that it would resonate with viewers. Zee TV has always championed impactful storytelling, and aligning with that legacy inspired me to give this project my all. Nervousness is natural, but it's the belief in your story and team that helps you embrace the challenge head-on.
3. What made you cast the two lead stars of the show-Ayushi and Bharat?
Casting Ayushi and Bharat felt like a natural choice for Jaane Anjaane Hum Mile. Ayushi brings a unique combination of strength and vulnerability to the character of Reet, which is pivotal to the story. Bharat, on the other hand, embodies the layers of Raghav-a man navigating complexities between his personal struggles and family ties. Both actors have a natural screen presence and an ability to connect with the audience emotionally. I wanted a cast that could breathe life into these characters while making them relatable, and Ayushi and Bharat have done just that. Their chemistry and dedication have truly elevated the narrative.
4. The aata saata marriage custom is being showcased in the serial. It is something new for the audience. What convinced you to bring such a project?
The idea of exploring the aata saata custom came from a desire to tell stories that are rooted in lesser-known traditions yet resonate universally. This practice, while uncommon to many, reflects deeper societal dynamics, including the roles and sacrifices within families. I was drawn to the potential of showing how such a tradition impacts individuals and relationships, particularly through the lens of Reet and Raghav's journey. The show doesn't just highlight this custom but also questions and challenges the norms surrounding it. For me, it's about sparking conversations and presenting narratives that are fresh yet emotionally powerful.
