Janmashtami Luxury Prashad Recipe

Celebrate Janmashtami with a delightful prashad recipe by Masterchef Shipra Khanna, blending tradition and luxury. This special sweet dish is perfect for offering to Lord Krishna, made from milk, jaggery, and rich dry fruits, topped with edible gold leaf.

Ingredients for the Prashad

The ingredients required for this prashad include 500 ml of milk, 3/4 cup of jaggery (adjustable to taste), 1/2 cup of homemade condensed milk, 10-15 pieces each of almonds, cashews, and walnuts, 1/2 cup of makhane, 1/2 cup of desiccated coconut, 1/4 cup of melon seeds, and 2 tablespoons of flax seeds. Additionally, edible gold leaf is used for garnishing.

Steps to Prepare the Prashad

Start by combining milk, jaggery, and homemade condensed milk in a kadai. Simmer the mixture while stirring frequently to prevent burning until it reduces to one-fourth of its original volume. In a separate pan, heat desi ghee and fry almonds, cashews, walnuts, and flax seeds until they turn golden brown; set them aside.

Next, heat one tablespoon of desi ghee in another pan and roast makhane, desiccated coconut, and melon seeds until they are lightly golden. Once the milk mixture has reduced sufficiently, add all the roasted ingredients to it and mix well. Transfer the mixture to a lined tin and top it with desiccated coconut, fried dry fruits, and a luxurious layer of edible gold leaf. Allow the prashad to cool completely before cutting it into pieces.

Cooking Tips for Perfect Prashad

To ensure the best results while making this prashad: stir the milk mixture often to avoid burning and ensure even reduction. Roast dry fruits and other ingredients on low heat to enhance their flavors without burning them. Reduce the milk to a thick pudding-like consistency for a rich texture. Use fresh desi ghee for roasting to elevate the flavor.
