In the dynamic landscape of Indian television, COLORS Gujarati has introduced a fresh narrative with its latest family drama, United State of Gujarat. The plot weaves together the elements of tradition and modernity, centering around the life of Yamuna, portrayed by Ami Trivedi, who finds herself separated from her family owing to her marriage choices. The story gains further complexity with the return of her daughter Kay, played by Sana Amin Sheikh, to India, sparking a mission to reunite her fragmented family. Adding to the drama, veteran actress Nimisha Vakhariya takes on the role of Jasumati, the antagonistic stepmother of Keshav, played by Raj Anadkat, showcasing a critical negative character within the storyline.
Sana Amin Sheikh, known for selecting roles that challenge the norm, finds herself in relatively unexplored territory with her role in United State of Gujarat. For the first time, she brings to life a Gujarati character, a venture that she has embraced wholeheartedly. To authentically portray her character, Sana underwent workshops to learn the Gujarati language, despite her proficiency in reading it. This dedication to her role highlights the lengths actors go to connect with their audience on a deeper level.
On reflecting her experience, Sana expressed her enthusiasm for diverse roles, stating, "I always want to play different characters, and it's very important for me that people see me in different characters. This is the first time I'm playing a Gujarati character, and I wanted to do full justice to it by learning the language properly. While I'm not Gujarati myself, I do have deep Gujarati roots. My great-grandfather, Master Ashraf Khan, was a significant figure in Gujarati theatre. For an actor, it's a privilege to explore shows/plays or movies. Recently I was surprised when a Gujarati family came up to me to say how much they enjoy watching the United State of Gujarat. The love and support received from Gujarat has been amazing, and I was looking forward to connecting with the audience through this role."
The show airs every day from Monday to Sunday at 8 PM on COLORS Gujarati, offering viewers a glimpse into the lives of its vivid characters and their journey towards family reunion and self-discovery. Sana Amin Sheikh's role as Kay not only signifies a pivotal point in the storyline but also marks a significant step in her acting career, portraying a Gujarati character for the very first time. Through her performance, she aims to bridge the gap between her ancestral heritage and her audience, making United State of Gujarat a must-watch for those who cherish family dramas that resonate with cultural authenticity and emotional depth.
