Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain Star Shubhangi Atre: The Magic Of Old Indian TV Can Never Be Forgotten

On the occasion of World Television Day celebrated on November 21st, actress Shubhangi Atre, who has been part of shows like Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kasturi, Do Hanson Ka Jodaa, Chidiya Ghar, Adhuri Kahani Hamari, and is currently seen in Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain, opens her heart about her connection with television, the memories it carries, and the magic it still holds in people's lives. With honesty and affection, she reflects on how TV shaped her childhood and continues to remain an important part of her journey.
Speaking about her earliest memory, Shubhangi recalls, "My earliest memory of watching television is very sweet and emotional for me. I used to sit with my whole family in the living room and wait for our favourite shows to start. It always felt like a small celebration at home." She adds that those simple nights with no phones and no distractions are still close to her heart because they remind her of the strong family bond she grew up with.
Talking about how the medium has evolved, she explains, "Television has changed so much. Earlier, we had only a few channels, but today the options are endless. OTT platforms have given people the freedom to watch anything at any time. Storytelling has become faster and more experimental." But she points out that despite all the changes, TV has remained powerful. "Both TV and OTT now go hand in hand," she adds.
As someone deeply rooted in the industry, Shubhangi shares why TV still feels irreplaceable. "Television has a warmth and familiarity that no other platform can replace. People connect with characters like they are part of their family. TV becomes a part of daily life, and that love is very special," she says.
On whether daily soaps and reality shows still connect with viewers, she responds, "Yes, absolutely. Families still sit together and watch their favourite shows. The emotions are the same, the connection is the same, and that bond will always stay," she says with a smile.
When asked about bringing back an era, Shubhangi says, "I would bring back the time of Hum Log, Buniyaad, Nukkad, Shrimaan Shrimati, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Hum Paanch, Shararat, Khichdi, and Astitva. Those shows were not just watched, they were felt." She adds that those stories carried innocence and honesty that created a deep connection with the audience, something she believes the world still needs.
