There has been a buzz about Sony Entertainment Television pulling the plug on CID season 2. "Despite initial promise and buzz, the crime thriller has failed to strike a connection with the audience. The initial nostalgia seems to have faded out as the numbers have dropped significantly since the first episode in December. The channel and the production house have attempted all measures to spice up the viewership. Parth Samthaan's entry didn't fetch much numbers for the show," a reliable source told Filmibeat.

"While Shivaji Satam's exit and ACP Pradyuman's death mystery created buzz on social media, the numbers didn't witness a significant rise. Sony Entertainment Television is not pleased with the ratings of the show, and is thinking of ending CID 2 at the right time. Although the production house has not received any notice from the channel, there has been internal discussion about axing CID season 2 due to low TRPs," the khabri added.

Filmibeat can confirm that CID season 2 is under the scanner but no official decision has been taken about its future. "The show is performing well for SonyLIV and Netflix, resulting in decent viewership on OTT platforms. There are speculations about CID 2 ending after Kaun Banega Crorepati 17 launch; however, there is no truth to the conjecture," our source quipped when asked about Sony TV axing the show due to low TRPs.

"Kaun Banega Crorepati season 17 will be the next big launch on the channel. The Hindi GEC has planned a massive promotional campaign for the show, and all focus is currently on revamping the programming. Super Dancer Chapter 5 and KBC 17 are expected to drive the viewership for Sony TV in the upcoming days," another source maintained.
