Lohri 2025 EXCLUSIVE | Jagriti Star Aarya Babbar Aka Kalikant On Celebration Plans This Year: I Plan To…

Lohri 2025 Exclusive: Lohri, a vibrant harvest festival celebrated predominantly in the Punjab region of India, holds deep cultural and seasonal significance for the Sikh and Hindu communities. Observed on the night before Makar Sankranti, this traditional winter folk festival marks the end of the Winter Solstice and welcomes longer days as the sun begins its northward journey. Symbolically, Lohri represents the Earth's closest approach to the sun, signifying the waning of winter and the onset of a new harvest season.
According to the Hindu solar calendar, Lohri is observed in the Paush month of the lunisolar Bikrami calendar. This year, the festival falls on January 14, as per the Gregorian calendar. The event coincides with the peak growth of Punjab's main winter crop, wheat, which is sown in October and reaches its prime in January. Though the crop is harvested later in March, Lohri festivities in January are a way for people to gather around bonfires, celebrate the end of winter, and look forward to spring.
Another notable aspect of Lohri is its association with astrology. On this day, the sun transitions into the zodiac sign of Makara (Capricorn), an auspicious shift that symbolizes new beginnings and prosperity. This celestial significance adds a spiritual dimension to the celebrations, making Lohri a cherished festival of joy, gratitude, and renewal.
