Sometimes, Silence Is a Man’s Way of Crying- Shubhangi Atre

Actress Shubhangi Atre who is known for her show Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, sayshas opened up on the very important and often ignored topic of men's mental health, especially as Men's Mental Health Awareness Month is observed in June. Speaking in a very heartfelt and honest way, she shared how society often forgets that men have emotions too.
"Yes, I really agree. Men's mental health is something we don't talk about enough," she says.
"Society puts so much pressure on men to 'be strong' all the time that we forget they are human too. Just like women, they also go through stress, anxiety, and sadness. But the problem is, they are rarely allowed to talk about it," she adds.
The Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai actress strongly feels that men are not given enough space to express what they feel inside. She says it begins in childhood.
"From a young age, boys are told things like 'don't cry' or 'be a man,' and slowly they start believing that showing emotions is a weakness," Shubhangi shares."Women, in general, are more emotionally expressive, but men are taught to lock their emotions inside. We need to change this thinking," she adds.
Talking about how women view men's emotions, she shares an important observation."I think women sometimes expect men to stay strong all the time, which isn't fair. Sometimes, silence is their way of crying. Sometimes, anger is just fear or pain," she explains."Men feel just as much - but they may not always have the words," she adds.
As for what can truly help men open up, Shubhangi believes that real change begins with small actions,"The first step is to make men feel it's okay to not be okay. Whether it's brothers, friends, fathers, or partners - we should simply listen," she urges. She further adds, "We don't always need to 'fix' things. Just being there matters. Even a simple question like 'how are you really?' can mean so much. It's these little acts of kindness that create safe spaces."
