Urvashi Upadhyay Recalls Setting a Record with a 47-Second Costume Change on Stage

Actress Urvashi Upadhyay, known for her role as Kusum in Mangal Laxmi, recently shared a throwback story from her theatre days that left her audience in awe. She recalled a moment when she changed from one saree to another in just 47 seconds-right on stage, in total darkness!

Talking about this incredible moment, Urvashi said:
"Theatre is all about timing, and that day, I proved it-changing from one costume to another in just 47 seconds, right on stage in total darkness! We had planned the blackout, so I wasn't worried, but doing it so fast was exciting. When the lights came on and the audience cheered loudly, I knew I had not just set a record in speed but also won their hearts!"

But this wasn't something that happened overnight. Urvashi practiced tirelessly, even closing her eyes during rehearsals to prepare for the pitch-black moment. She started with a costume change time of five minutes, then pushed herself to do it in three minutes, then two, and finally, she achieved the unbelievable-47 seconds.

"I was extremely scared-what if the lights came on before I finished? But I kept doing it, again and again. And each time, I made it within 47 seconds!" she recalled.

What made the moment even more magical was how she completed the final step of her change. In the last three seconds, she would drape her saree's pallu and dramatically lift it into the air behind her in full Yash Raj film style. She would then walk down the stairs from a balcony-like setting, making the moment look grand and effortless. The audience would break into loud applause, amazed at her charisma and how she pulled it off in just a few seconds.

Urvashi's story is a reminder of the magic of theatre and the hard work actors put in behind the scenes. From quick changes to last-minute improvisations, the stage is full of surprises. And for Urvashi, this 47-second transformation remains one of her most thrilling achievements.
