Zyada Mat Udd: Shehzad Shaikh of COLORS’ Says “I Had To Unlearn My Training To Master...'

Shehzad Shaikh's journey from working in an airport terminal to starring on television has come full circle. He once wore a cabin crew uniform in real life and now brings the aviation world to life on COLORS' sitcom, 'Zyada Mat Udd'. In this show, Shehzad portrays Goldie Lalwani, a spoiled rich kid posing as Gopal Bajaj, a flight attendant. His task is to win the employee of the year award to prove his worth as the airline's successor.
Before stepping into acting, Shehzad was trained as a cabin crew member. This career path was familiar, as his father worked at an airport. From a young age, Shehzad had firsthand exposure to the dynamic airline industry. This background has been instrumental in shaping his portrayal of Goldie in 'Zyada Mat Udd'.
From Real-Life Experience to Comic Role
Reflecting on how his past prepared him for this role, Shehzad said, "My aviation background played a huge role in shaping how I approached essaying Goldie in Zyada Mat Udd. Having trained as a cabin crew member, I understood the discipline, precision, and composure required in that job. But Goldie masquerading as Gopal is the polar opposite; he's chaotic, careless, and constantly trying to escape responsibility."
To convincingly portray Goldie's character, Shehzad had to abandon everything he knew about being a flight attendant. He embraced Goldie's blunders wholeheartedly. "I spent hours practicing physical comedy-spilling drinks, tripping over trolleys, and fumbling safety demos-because I wanted Gopal's disasters to feel authentic and entertaining," he shared.
Aviation Background Meets Comedy
The actor believes that 'Zyada Mat Udd' feels like destiny bringing his past full circle. He couldn't be more thrilled to turn his real-life experience into comic fodder for the show. The sitcom airs every Saturday and Sunday at 11:00 pm on COLORS.
In reel life, Goldie might be clueless in the sky, but Shehzad is no stranger to the profession. His aviation training provided him with insights into the discipline and precision required for such roles. However, playing Goldie meant embracing chaos and carelessness.
This unique blend of real-life experience and comedic talent makes Shehzad's portrayal of Goldie both authentic and entertaining. The actor's dedication to perfecting physical comedy ensures that viewers enjoy every mishap that unfolds on screen.
