Anupamaa Actress Krutika Desai: If The Storytelling Stays Honest, Even Bold Choices Can Work Beautifully
Krutika Desai, who plays Pakhi in Anupamaa, which has been produced by Deepa Shahi and Rajan Shahi under their banner Shahi Production Pvt. Ltd., believes if a show has run for a certain amount of time, it doesn't limit risks, but introducing new narratives should be done tactfully.

She said, "Longevity can sometimes make you more cautious; that's true. But I don't see it as a limitation. It's more about finding the right balance. When a show has run for long, you already have a strong emotional connection with the audience, so any risk has to feel organic. If the storytelling stays honest, even bold choices can work beautifully."
She feels the audience has also evolved, and they appreciate new narratives. She said, "Audience loyalty is a beautiful thing, but yes, it comes with responsibility. You don't want to break their trust. At the same time, I feel viewers are evolving and they appreciate good, bold storytelling if it stays true to the core of the show. So it's about respecting their love while still pushing boundaries carefully."
She understands that daily soap needs spontaneity, as it is so structured and fast-paced. She said, "It comes from being present in the moment. I try not to over-rehearse emotionally. I leave some space to react naturally to my co-actors and the situation. Even within a tight schedule, those small, real reactions bring freshness."
Asked how she protects her individuality in a legacy-driven show like Anupamaa, she said, "I think individuality comes from how you interpret your character. Even within a legacy-driven show, every actor brings their own rhythm, their own emotional depth. I focus on understanding my character deeply and expressing it in a way that feels authentic to me, rather than trying to fit into a set mold."
For her staying true to the character and adapting to constant script changes, both are challenging. She said, "Staying true to the character is the foundation, but adapting to constant script changes is the reality of television. The key is to stay flexible without losing the essence of who your character is. That balance is where the real craft lies."
She mentioned that even in today's OTT-driven space, Anupamaa stays relevant because of its emotional connection. "OTT has definitely changed the game, and the audience today has a lot of choices. But shows like this stay relevant because they connect on an emotional level that goes beyond trends. If the storytelling remains relatable, heartfelt, and consistent, there will always be space for it, even in a very competitive landscape," Krutika ended.
