Anupamaa Star Adrija Roy Aka Rahi: Holding Back Doesn’t Help Anyone In This Industry
In a fast-moving industry where visibility matters as much as skill, Anupama actress Adrija Roy shares her honest take on why many actors still hesitate to ask for work and how that mindset needs to shift.

"Sometimes we stop ourselves before anyone else does," she says. She believes that what people often label as ego is actually a mix of doubt and fear. "Actors are constantly being judged, so naturally there is a hesitation. But holding back doesn't really help your journey," she adds, emphasizing the need to be more open and practical.
Speaking about how things have changed over time, Adrija points out that being proactive is now essential. "Today, if you're not reaching out, you're almost invisible," she says. According to her, the industry is too dynamic to rely only on incoming opportunities. "You have to remind people that you are here, you are working, and you are ready," she adds.
She also reflects on the balance between talent and networking. "Your craft is what defines you, but people need to discover that craft first," she says. She explains that networking is not about impressing others but about building comfort and familiarity. "When people know you and understand your work, they are more likely to think of you," she adds.
Talking about the silent hierarchy that still exists, she says, "There is this idea that once you reach a certain space, you should just be offered work." She pauses before adding, "But the truth is, everyone is still searching for the right opportunities. No one really stops trying."
Adrija also has a clear and grounded message for actors who feel awkward about putting themselves forward. "Don't make it heavier than it is," she says. "This is your profession, not a personal favour you're asking for." She adds that consistency and honesty matter more than anything. "Just keep showing up, keep improving, and don't let hesitation speak louder than your ambition."
