EXCL Akshun Mahajan On Why Republic Day Is Special

For Akshun, Republic Day is closely tied to his family and childhood memories. "Republic Day holds a very special place in my heart because of my maternal grandfather," he shared, calling him one of the most luminous figures of his life while growing up. Recalling his early years, the actor added, "I remember going to the flag unfurling on 26 January, and my Naanu had explained to me the difference between unfurling and hoisting, and it stayed with me ever since."

Akshun revealed that these ceremonies were a regular part of his life up until 2010. His connection to the Armed Forces runs deep, as his maternal grandfather was a Lieutenant Colonel and his maternal uncle, Major Deepak Padda, was a martyr. "Almost everyone from my maternal side is in the Armed Forces. Republic Day is genuinely very imperative for me," he said, adding that the day also represents India's journey from colonial rule to sovereignty.

Over the years, Akshun's understanding of Republic Day has evolved. "It's not just about the parades and flags anymore; it's about the values the Constitution stands for-justice, equality, liberty, and fraternity," he explained.

As an actor, he feels a strong responsibility towards telling rooted stories. "Being a part of stories based on India or its history is crucial for me. I want to do a film or a show based on the Indian Army because of the way I personally resonate with it," he shared. Expressing his pride, Akshun concluded, "This day celebrates India's self-governance. I'm very proud of my country, and being a part of it fills me with overwhelming happiness."
