From Punjabi Screen To Hindi Primetime: Pardeep Singh Toor On Grey Characters, Craft, And Crossover

Actor Pardeep Singh Toor, who rose to fame after clinching the Mr. India World 2014 title, has carved a niche for himself with a seamless shift from Punjabi television to mainstream Hindi shows. The actor, currently seen as Mangal in Kyunki Rishton Ke Bhi Roop Badalte Hai, says the transition was both challenging and rewarding.

Pardeep Singh Toor On Grey Characters Craft And Crossover

Having earlier featured in dramas like Tu Juliet Jatt Di, Kumkum Bhagya, and episodic crime series such as Jurm Aur Jazbaat, Toor believes morally complex roles are what truly test an actor's mettle.

"Absolutely, grey shades or morally complex characters are a treat for any actor," Toor shares. "In real life, no human being is entirely black or white; we all exist in the grey. My character in Tu Juliet Jatt Di loves his family fiercely, but the anger he bottles up inside is what makes him deeply human. Playing straight positive leads is wonderful and has its own charm, but complex characters give you a much larger canvas to perform. I love challenges where the audience is left conflicted about whether to love the character or hate him."

Despite the language shift, Toor insists the work ethic behind the camera remains unchanged across industries.

"Honestly, the production values, professionalism, and dedication across both Hindi and regional television are exactly the same today," he says. "Both spaces are creating incredible, high-quality content for major channels, so the working environment remains identical."

For him, the real difference lies in audience and scale.

"The true difference lies entirely in the target audience and the language. When you work on a regional show like Tedha Medha Sadha Vedha or Dildariyan, there is a beautiful ease of doing the work because performing in a regional language brings an organic, natural comfort," Toor explains. "However, when you pivot to mega-shows like Kumkum Bhagya and Kyunki Rishton Ke Bhi Roop Badalte Hain Tu Juliet Jatt Di, you are catering to a vastly broader, global audience. That wider reach naturally brings a different kind of responsibility and requires you to be slightly more alert as a performer. But at the end of the day, both platforms demand the exact same level of commitment and creative excellence."

With his roots in Punjabi TV and a growing presence in Hindi fiction, Toor is among the few actors successfully straddling both worlds, one layered character at a time.
