Naman Shaw On Maldives Break, TV’s Relentless Pace, & Why Stepping Away Sharpens His Grey Character

Actor Naman Shaw, currently drawing praise for his portrayal of the flawed yet compelling Adit Saxena in Mangal Lakshmi, is back from a quick Maldives vacation - and says the break has given him fresh insight into his role.

The trip was timed to the day around his shoot calendar. "We planned it a month in advance for the kids' holiday. I had just four days before my next schedule, and Maldives was the fastest way to truly switch off," Shaw says.

He traveled with his wife, son Krivaan, and two other families - all parents of Krivaan's school friends. "Three families, three parents, three kids. It was the perfect mix of chaos and calm, with a lot of beach time in between," he shares.

Does taking time off break the rhythm of playing a complex character daily? Shaw believes it does the opposite. "Distance actually helps. When you're in a role every day, you can hit a creative wall. A short break resets you. You come back with renewed energy, and sometimes you even discover new layers to the character. The first day back needs a bit of adjustment, but then it feels organic," he explains.

Still, complete disconnection is rare in television. "I tried to go offline, but that's tough in our field. I had a few dubbing sessions scheduled. I kept work talk minimal, but I couldn't ignore it entirely," he admits.

Shaw's career in Hindi television spans 20 years, beginning with his 2004 debut on India's Best Cinestars Ki Khoj. He quickly became known as the "chocolate boy" of daily soaps, with notable roles in Kasamh Se, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kairi - Rishta Khatta Meetha, Tashan-e-Ishq among others.

In recent years, his work has evolved from clean-cut romantic leads to layered, morally grey characters like Adit. He has also dabbled in production, exploring the medium from behind the camera.

Now back on the Mangal Lakshmi set, Shaw feels recharged. "I'm refreshed and ready to dive deeper. There's a lot more to explore in Adit Saxena's journey, and I'm looking forward to where the story takes him next," he says.
