According to initial reports, the team had moved to Talsari, near Digha, for a shoot involving the sea. During this schedule, Rahul reportedly entered the water while shooting a scene. Moments later, Rahul began to drown. Technicians at the spot rushed in and pulled Rahul from the water. He died due to accidental drowning.

A report in the Telegraph stated Rahul Banerjee was rushed to a hospital in Digha. Drowning has been reportedly stated as the cause of his death. The news of Rahul's death shocked the audience and the Bengali fraternity, leading to a wave of grief.

Actor Bhaskar Banerjee, who plays Rahul's uncle in the same serial, described what the unit experienced that day. In an interaction with Anand Bazar Patrika, Bhaskar said, "He died by drowning. It's a tragic incident. It happened after the shooting was over (pack-up). However, the exact circumstances of this incident are still unclear."

Bhaskar explained that the entire crew finished the main work and then headed for lunch. Rahul chose to remain at the location, saying some shots were still left. Rahul planned to rejoin the others after completing those scenes. What unfolded after that decision has left the team deeply shaken.
