Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai Tackles An Issue Many Families Fear But Rarely Discuss
Television is often criticised for creating drama around everything. It is called loud, especially because of the extreme reactions. But every once in a while a story comes that looks uncomfortably familiar and grabs the audience's attention. It becomes a conversation starter and forces the audience to discuss topics that they safely ignore.

The current track in Rajan Shahi's Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai is one such story. The latest plot revolves around Maira, a young girl dealing with unwanted attention that slowly, quietly begins to cross boundaries, in short stalking. Though it happens in real homes, neighbourhoods and even schools, nobody wants to talk about it because of the fear of embarrassment in the society. But what the show is doing here is quite different. Instead of making it a villain-and-victim setup, it focuses on Maira. It shows what she is feeling and how something like this does not just frighten a child but confuses them, makes them doubt themselves, and sometimes convinces them, quietly and devastatingly, that they are somehow to blame.
Well, isn't that true?
A child who goes through this experience like Maira often carries guilt. They stay silent not because nothing happened, but because they are not sure they will be believed. Or worse, because they are afraid of what believing them might cost the family. That is why the response from Maira's parents, Armaan and Abhira, matters.
While the couple are themselves dealing with their complicated relationship, they stand together for their daughter. They notice the change in her. And they make sure that Maira realises that it's not her fault.
This is not the first time Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai has shone light on such issues. While keeping family dynamics at its core, it often steps outside its boundaries and brings stories that are real. Through the track, the show is gently holding up a mirror and asking whether, in their own homes, children feel safe enough to speak. Whether the adults around them would listen without and if support would come before judgement.
While Maira's story is fictional, the fear and silence behind it are not. And Rajan and his team deserve to be applauded for always taking the risk of bringing such stories into the limelight. Keep watching Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai to know what happens next.
