Debchandrima Singha Roy, a prominent name in Kolkata's entertainment scene, has debuted in Hindi television with COLORS' fantasy thriller romance, 'Suhagan Chudail’. Her role as Deeya has earned her widespread acclaim. Deeya is a courageous woman who strives to rescue her love, Moksh, played by Zayn Ibad Khan, from Nishigandha, portrayed by Nia Sharma.
The show follows Deeya as she battles the enchantress Nishigandha, who seeks eternal life by marrying and sacrificing 16 husbands through the 'Solah Shringaars' ritual. With Moksh as her 16th target, Deeya fights to break the spell and save him.
Breaking Language Barriers
Transitioning from Bangla to Hindi was a significant move for Debchandrima. She shares, "Taking on the role of Deeya in Suhagan Chudail has been an incredible and immensely rewarding journey, but one that came with its own set of hurdles. As a Bengali actor, I dealt with the challenge of not just embodying Deeya but mastering an entirely new language - Hindi."
Debchandrima dedicated herself to mastering Hindi, a language unfamiliar to her. She immersed herself in books, videos, and dialogue rehearsals. Her co-stars, Zayn Ibad Khan and Nia Sharma, provided substantial support during this process.
Commitment to Mastery
Debchandrima highlights her dedication, "From the moment I got this opportunity, I am trying my best to master in Hindi speaking. I devoured books, watched videos, rehearsed my dialogues tirelessly, and leaned heavily on the guidance of my talented co-stars. Zayn Ibad Khan and Nia Sharma were absolute rockstars in this process."
She continues, "Even now, I make it a point to read and re-read my lines until the words flow as naturally as if Hindi were my mother tongue. It feels wonderful to have the Hindi audience commend my fluency in the language. I hope they'll give me as much love as my Bengali fans have over the years."
Debchandrima's journey underscores the power of passion and determination in overcoming challenges. Her fluency in Hindi and her portrayal of Deeya are testaments to her dedication.
