Chiranjeevi's son-in-law Sirish Bharadwaj has surrendered himself before a Nampally Court on Wednesday. He was evading arrest for close to four months after his estranged wife filed a dowry harassment complaint against him.
Sirish Bharadwaj, who was also appointed as a member of the Regional Board of Film Censor in 2010, told the court that his brother was manhandled by cops. Fearing the same could happen to him, he was absconding. In May, he had seek anticipatory bail in the Supreme court but it dismissed his anticipatory bail plea.
The court had advised him to surrender before the concerned local court and seek a regular bail after arrest. However, the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate sent Sirish to judicial custody till August 10.
Megstar Chiranjeevi's daughter Srija filed a dowry harassment case against her hubby Sirish Bharadwaj and mother-in-law at the Central Crime Station (CCS) on March 13. In her complaint, she mentioned that they were physically and mentally torturing her for dowry.
Srija eloped with Sirish Bharadwaj and married against her parents' wishes in 2007. After the marriage, they told media that they their lives were in threat from her father and asked for police protection. Later, they settled in Delhi and has a two-year-old daughter.
