Tollywood's January report card

    By Sampurn Wire

About seven Telugu films have already been released in 2011, and the scene is neither heart warming nor heart wrenching. Only two films have done well at the box-office but a few has got mixed reviews.

Golconda High School, which was released on January 15, got thumbs up from the critics but unfortunately failed to click with the masses. Parama Veera Chakra (PVC), which created hype in Tollywood, failed miserably at the BO and Graduate followed the same line of PVC too.

A movie, which could have done good business but failed to was Anaganaga O Dheerudu. But given its high budget, and thus ticketing, the movie can hardly cover its production cost for now. This is one problem, which had also plagued the entire Bollywood industry last year – unfriendly budgets. Perhaps the makers will now understand their pockets better.

But among those Tollywood movies which have made a mark is Harish Shankar"s Mirapakaya. Deeksha Seth and Ravi Teja"s entertainer has won the hearts of the audience. But this week"s release Wanted and Ala Modalaindi have got mixed reviews.
