set
to
unveil
the
statue
of
legendary
actor
SV
Ranga
Rao
on
July
20.
The
theatre
artist
turned
film
star's
statue
has
been
installed
in
Dowaleswaram,
Rajahmundry.
According
to
reports,
a
grand
function
will
be
held
at
Dowaleswaram
and
Chiru
will
launch
the
statue.
SV
Ranga
Rao,
who
is
fondly
called
SVR
by
his
fans,
was
very
much
interested
in
stage
plays
during
his
collage
days.
He
debuted
in
films
with
Varoodhini
in
1946.
Later,
he
had
acted
in
more
than
170
movies
in
Telugu
and
Tamil.
He
was
last
seen
as
Kamsa
in
the
movie
Yashoda
Krishna
in
1974.
He
was
a
versatile
actor,
who
had
natural
flow
in
his
acting.
He
was
popularly
known
for
playing
the
Indian
Mythology
roles
like
Ravana,
Ghatotkacha,
Duryodhana,
Kamsa
and
Kichaka.
He
is
also
the
only
Telugu
actor
and
second
Indian
to
have
won
the
best
actor
award
at
Indonesian
Film
Festival
at
Jakarta
in
1963
for
his
role
of
Keechaka
in
Narthanasala.
However,
this
is
not
the
first
statue
of
SVR
to
be
installed
in
Andhra
Pradesh.
Earlier,
Chiranjeevi
had
unveiled
SVR's
bronze
statue
in
Vijaywada
couple
of
years
ago.
His
brother
Naga
Babu
has
also
inaugurated
his
statue
in
Guntur.
