Telugu film industry is male dominated and most of the films made every year focus more on heroism. A few female-oriented movies are made in the industry. Out of hundreds of movies produced every year, actresses get very less chance to show their performance. Many a times, they are used as glam dolls. So they hardly get a chance to experiment with their roles. But with the entry of young breed of actresses, the trend is fast changing in Tollywood.

This new crop of actresses are more conscious about their choice. They do not want to be mere glam girls. They want more performance-oriented roles. With every movie, they want to experiment with their roles. Besides demanding heavy amount of money, they are also forcing filmmakers to create interesting roles with lot of scope for them. Which is why they are getting acting-oriented roles.

One particular role that many actresses are more inclined to do in recent times is of a journalists. As reporters, Tollywood actresses like Tamanna, Nayantara, Parvathi Melton, Taapsee Pannu and Suman Ranganathan are successful in impressing the film goers. Actress Tamanna Bhatia has played the role of a TV reporter in Pawan Kalyan's Cameraman Ganga Tho Rambabu. Her role was very significant in the film and it is she who helps the hero to bring transformation in the society in the Puri Jagannath-directed movie.

Nayan In KVJ

Nayantara has appeared as photo journalist in director Krish's hit movie Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum starring Rana Daggubati in the lead. In the movie, she helps the hero to unearth illegal mining in Bellary.

Parvati In Srimannarayana

Parvati Melton has appeared as a reporter named Swapnika in Nandamuri Balakrishna's Srimannarayana. Her performance has been raved by the film critics.

Taapsee In Aata Arambam

Taapsee Pannu, who wanted to be a journalist in real life, is set to appear as Journalist in the movie Aata Arambam, which is the dubbed version of Ajith-Vishnuvardhan Telugu film Arrambam that released during Diwali festival and become a Blockbuster success.

Hansika In Biriyani

Hansika Motwani is playing a television reporter in Venkat Prabhu's forthcoming directorial film Biriyani. Talking about the role, the actress says that she has great respect for journalist and after playing a reporter, her respect for them has further increased.

Suman In Aata Arambam

Suman Ranganathan, who started her acting career with Telugu film 20 Va Satabdam, will also appear as reporter in Aata Arambam, which is slated to release in theatres on December 6.

Kriti Sanon In 1: Nenokkadine

Kriti Sanon, who is making her acting debut with 1: Nenokkadine, will be seen as a news correspondent in Mahesh Babu-Sukumar's much-hyped movie. She is said to have large scope for performance and the makers are yet to reveal her look in the film.

Charmi In Prathighatana

Charmi, who has rocked the viewers with her glam roles, is now essaying the character of a TV correspondent in director Thammareddy Bharadwaja's upcoming film Prathighatana, which is touted to be a political drama. This happens to be one of the most powerful roles in her career and she is all excited about it.

Kavya Shetty

Actress Kavya Shetty, who is all set to turn actress, will be seen as a journalist named Mitra in Navadeep starrer thriller, which is directed by Sai Gokul Ramnath.


Amala Paul, who has impressed the Telugu viewers with her glamour, is playing a journalist in Joshiy's Malayalam film Run Baby Run. While Mohanlal is playing a television cameraman, she Amala appears a reporter.
