    Pawan Kalyan Was To Play Mahesh Babu's Role In Athadu


    Everyone in Andhra Pradesh knows that Telugu movie Athadu is one of the big hits in the career of Superstar Mahesh Babu, but very few are aware that Power Star Pawan Kalyan was to play the lead role in it. Yes! Director Trivikram Srinivas has revealed that he had initially approached Pawan with the project and also narrated the story. But he did the film with Mahesh, when the latter did not show interest in it.

    Addressing the audio release function of Attarintiki Daredi, Pawan Kalyan had said that he slept while Trivikram Srinivas was narrating the story to him. In an interview to a regional newspaper, the director spoke about success of his latest movie. When quizzed about what he did with the story that he had narrated to Pawan earlier, he used the same script for Mahesh Babu's Blockbuster movie Athadu.

    However, Athadu is a romantic action entertainer, which has been written and directed by Trivikram Srinivas. The movie, which was released in theatres on August 10, 2005, was all about a professional killer who is framed for murder and assumes a dead man's identity while hiding from the police. How he proves himself to be innocent in the case will form the crux of the story.

    Mahesh Babu played the professional killer in the movie Athadu, while Trisha Krishnan appeared as his love interest. Sonu Sood, Nassar and Prakash Raj played some important roles in the film. Mani Sharma has scored music for its soundtrack.

    Written by Trivikram Srinivas, the script for the movie Athadu was loosely based on the book Point of Impact and Hollywood film Assassins.

    Athadu, which was released in record number of screens, has collected approximately Rs 22 crore nett at the worldwide Box Office in its life time. Thus the movie has become the sensational hit of 2005 in Tollywood.

    The movie was dubbed into Tamil and Malayalam languages as Nandhu and Target respectively. It has also been remade in Hindi as Ek: The Power of One and in Bengali as Wanted.

    Athadu Set New Record With DVD Sales

    The DVD version of the movie was released by Aditya Music under its Aditya Video Brand, and won the best DVD award for its quality and is considered to be one of the highest sold DVDs in Tollywood history.

    Records of Athadu Theatrical Run

    The film has completed successful run for 50 days in 205 centers and 100 days in 38 centres. It has had a 175-day run in Sudarshan 35 mm in Hyderabad, grossing Rs 10.40 million from the theatre.

    Athadu Satellite Rights Price

    Previously, MAA TV had brought the satellite rights of Athadu for a lesser rate, but the huge success of the film on small screen increased demand and was quoted for high price. Telecast rights were renewed by MAA TV for 3.5 crores for a period of 7 years.

    Athadu – First Telugu Film To Release In Poland

    Athadu was dubbed into Polish for a release in Poland as a Poszukiwany (Seeking). It has become the first Telugu film released in Poland. It received an overwhelming response in Poland as well.

    Athadu Release In USA, Chennai

    The film was released with 6 prints in USA and in 3 screens in Chennai. The film netted Rs 10.5 lakhs from 3 screens in Chennai in its opening weekend debuting at no 2.

    Awards For Athadu

    While Mahesh Babu won Best Actor Nandi Award, Trivikram Srinivas has bagged Best Dialogue Writer Nandi Award and Best Director Filmfare Award for the movie. CH Srinivas has got Nandi Award for Best Special Effects for his work in it. The movie has also won Best Film from Santosham Film Awards.
