Sudeep should have got a National Film Award: Rajamouli

    Hyderabad: Telugu action extravaganza Eega has pocketed two National Film Awards on Monday and the film unit is very happy with these recognitions. But ace director SS Rajamouli does not seem to be very happy with the selection committee of this Awards as he wanted it to honour Kicha Sudeep's performance with an award.

    Kannada star Kicha Sudeep, who played the antagonist in the film Eega, has given an excellent performance in the movie. His acting has been raved by both film critics and the movie goer across the globe. Hence, Telugu filmmaker SS Rajamouli was quite hopeful that his efforts would be honoured with this highly regarded National Film Awards.

    Soon after the winners' list of 60th National Film Awards 2013 was announced, SS Rajamouli took to his Twitter page to thank his team members. The director tweeted, "Best Vfx is almost expected:) Personal congrats2Makuta.in particular to their young animation team for believing&working hard2archive that." He added, "Congratulations&thanks2 my producer Sai garu4 believing in content&emotion of eega and suresh babu garu4 his ability to envision my dream."

    Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli expressed his disappointment over the decision of the selection committee for National Film Awards 2013. The filmmaker writes, "But I would have been really happy had Sudeep received the recognition for his extraordinary efforts. Eega is not the same without him."

    Eega is a romantic fantasy fictional film written and directed by SS Rajamouli and produced by Korrapati Ranganatha Sai.

    Eega starred Sudeep, Samantha and Nani in lead roles. MM Keeravani has composed the music, while KK Senthil Kumar handled cinematography for the film, which was simultaneously made in Tamil as Naan Ee and Malayalam as Eecha.

    Telugu film Eega was a story about how a young man, who is reborn as a housefly, takes revenge on his killer. Nani has played the young man, while Samantha Ruth Prabhu appeared as his love interest.

    Sudeep has played antagonist in the movie Eega. Although he appears as a villain, he has larger scope than the hero in the movie.

    The main highlights of the film Eega are Sudeep's amazing performance and Visual effects and the photo realistic animation, which were supervised by Rahul Venugopal, Adel Adili and Pete Draper of Makuta effects.

    The fly, which is the hero of the film, had a large scope in the film, which was almost equal to Sudeep's role and its portions were created through the special effects.

    The biggest challenge of Sudeep was that he had to show his reaction to the fly without it being present as it was created after the shooting of the movie. And the Kannada actor had really given an amazing performance. Which is why SS Rajamouli had quite a lot of hope on him being honoured.

    Talking to IANS, Rajamouli said, "Well, we were expecting for visual FX for sure and I was also expecting an award for Sudeep. I feel happy for my team and Makuta VFX who really crossed barriers, particularly in animation, to get the amazing result."
