The mortal remains of renowned filmmaker Sattiraju Lakshmi Narayana aka Bapu, who died of cardiac arrest at his residence in Chennai on Sunday, were put to rest after the arrival of his son from Japan on Tuesday. His last rites were performed with all State honours. Leading Telugu stars like Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna, Mohan Babu, SP Balasubramaniam and many others attended his funeral ceremony.
Bapu started his career as a cartoonist and he entered the film industry with his first venture Sakshi in 1960. He was a part of some of the most amazing Telugu films. He was a follower of Lord Rama and most of his stories were influenced by his life. Some of hi memorable works are Mutyala Muggu, Mister Pellam, Pelli Pusthakam and Seetha Kalyanam.
Along with his writer friend Mullapudi Venkata Ramana, Bapu contributed immensely to the enrichment of Telugu cultural ethos through literature and cinema. N Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh announced that a world class cultural centre would be constructed in memory of Bapu and his Ramana on the banks of Godavari where several films of the duo were shot.
